South African Artist, Barbara Moerl-Weidig

Born and raised in Frankfurt, Germany,  Barbara started  painting at the age of 15 with oil paint. Her early works concentrated mostly on impressionist works like Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. At the age of 24 she quit the studies of Art and English at the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University, Frankfurt to become a pilot. This new passion drove her  towards 25 years of working for Lufthansa Cityline, but also to become the first female airline captain in Germany. During that time she met her husband and had one child.  Flying took her to many famous cities where she could see Europe’s fine arts. In 2007 she resigned and moved with her husband and son to Dubai. This gave her time to get back to her first passion, painting. She became a member of the “Dubai International Arts Centre”, to work on her technique under the guidance of a professional fine art painter. She exhibited her work in Germany and in Dubai, at the Art Souk, Dubai Ladies Club and at Women Art in the Court Yard Galle.

Barbara and her husband moved to South Africa and are now living in Swellendam.
