South African Artist, Anna Raimondo
of Smith Jewellery
After graduating with Honours in Jewellery Design and Gemmology from Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, she was fortunate to receive the prestigious scholarship to complete a Master of Design in Milan, Italy, at the Richemont Group’s Creative Academy. It was at this academy that she gained invaluable skills on the creative process, accessory design, marketing and the world of luxury.
After finishing her studies at the Creative Academy, she then completed an intense three-month internship as a designer for the world-renowned fashion brand Chloe, working in their leather department in Milan. Thereafter, she spent the next two years working and travelling in and around the UK and Australia.
In 2010 she returned home to Cape Town and launched SMITH.
She draws her inspiration from her travels and the different cultures and environments that she has encountered along the way; whether it’s a piece of wallpaper from a 16th century villa or from the feeling invoked by a walk through the African bush.
The challenge to fuse organic materials and sensations with intricate designs and techniques is what really fascinates her. She is continuously in the search of simple, elegant, timeless designs with a little bit of a kick! This translates into bold, feminine, lightweight sterling silver, brass and copper jewellery that is crafted 100% by hand, ensuring that no two pieces are the same.
In 2011 she started her collection for men. Inspired by the Victorian Gentleman, this range takes a fun and quirky look at traditional men’s jewellery.
